The International Community of Mennonite Brethren (ICOMB) is launching a worldwide campaign to share their mission and purpose, and grow their presence on the web. They are a subsidiary of Mennonite Brethren Mission and Service International (MBMSI).

They contracted with Monkeyraft Studios to create some 2.5D motion graphics for the promo, which was a lot of fun. Their in-house editor pulled together all the live footage, but the graphics had to match up to the precise frame, so as to give a seamless-segue feel from one live-action portion through the effects to the next.

This was before I migrated over to Adobe, so the graphics were done in Apple’s Motion. Next time I work with this type of thing, it will be in After Effects.

A Docu-promo (shot in HD originally, but waaay down-converted here, sorry). An organization in Northern California needed a video that would help raise awareness of what they do, inspire people with money and/or time to donate either, and feel “flashy but not cold and detached.” I tried to edit that warmth into this by using real film-grain overlays on the B-roll stuff, and by choosing to edit with a lot of candid footage, in between interview takes and such. What that gave me were lot’s of great cuts where the orphans and their “volunteer advocates” are interacting very naturally. “Advocates for Children” was very satisfied with this piece and overjoyed with what I was able to do with the material.

As a local organization under California CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Advocates For Children in San Mateo is raising awareness and funding for area foster youth.

They wanted me to edit a video that told the stories of 3 former foster youth who each had an advocate through their teen years. For more information visit www.advocatesfc.org (it will open in a new window, so you can still watch more videos here)

Farmers in California’s San Joaquin Valley, the world’s largest fruit growing industry, have been having difficulty making any money off their fruit. This short documentary looks into the problem, and into the lives of the farmers in my hometown.

The Reedley First Baptist Church works with an orphan school in Kenya, and had Monkeyraft Studios design and edit this documentary from the footage they brought back in 2008.
