Here I did some work for a TV pilot trailer. They gave me the rough-cut footage, just a clean plate of the guy opening a book, and asked me to make a surge of light and mysterious information come blasting out as we transition to the pyramid fly-through. I also composited the fly-through graphics as well.

Samples of recent Monkeyraft projects from the Fall of 2009. They include, in order of appearance: a branding promo for an international relief organization ICOMB, 2.5D animated wedding photos by Mariano Friginal, a music video for the global When I Grow Up organization, and wedding footage for New Orleans-based production company Silver Media. Thanks to all these recent clients who gave me the opportunity to make some great material for them!

ICOMB promo Motion Graphics

The International Community of Mennonite Brethren (ICOMB) is launching a worldwide campaign to share their mission and purpose, and grow their presence on the web. They are a subsidiary of Mennonite Brethren Mission and Service International (MBMSI).

They contracted with Monkeyraft Studios to create some 2.5D motion graphics for the promo, which was a lot of fun. Their in-house editor pulled together all the live footage, but the graphics had to match up to the precise frame, so as to give a seamless-segue feel from one live-action portion through the effects to the next.

This was before I migrated over to Adobe, so the graphics were done in Apple’s Motion. Next time I work with this type of thing, it will be in After Effects.

California CASA—full length

A Docu-promo (shot in HD originally, but waaay down-converted here, sorry). An organization in Northern California needed a video that would help raise awareness of what they do, inspire people with money and/or time to donate either, and feel “flashy but not cold and detached.” I tried to edit that warmth into this by using real film-grain overlays on the B-roll stuff, and by choosing to edit with a lot of candid footage, in between interview takes and such. What that gave me were lot’s of great cuts where the orphans and their “volunteer advocates” are interacting very naturally. “Advocates for Children” was very satisfied with this piece and overjoyed with what I was able to do with the material.

I only had a hand in the post-production of this material. (The amazing photography for the six 2.5D stills was done by Mariano Friginal). The groom is also a great photographer (Michael L’Heureux). But the video and audio were merely grabbed by a guest at the wedding with a small camcorder.

Award-Winning “Blossom Trail” spot

Commissioned by Ed Boling at The Reedley Exponent, this video helped Mr. Boling win First Place in 2009, for “coverage of the opening ceremonies of the 2009 Blossom Trail, complete with video and photographs…” from the Fresno County Farm Bureau.
